Best music floating around this week

While bemoaning my ill health and the lack of awesome shows this week, I spent some quality time listening to mp3s and watching the youtubes. I also watched a bunch of Buffy the Vampire Slayer reruns, but that is irrelevant here.

My favorites floating around this week... what am I forgetting?
  • A new Band of Horses song, download it free from their myspace, woohoo for a pretty voice and big guitars!
  • Who is this Scout Niblett and why do I love this song? [via pfork]
  • KEXP invited us to a super special members only performance at Bumbershoot with Tokyo Police Club, Art Brut and (OMG my secret best friend Danny w/) Menomena. The pain is not so exquisite, more torturous, as I contemplate missing it. Hoping to live vicariously through jet-setting friends.
  • Every blogger in the universe posted the Feist late night performance, but I enjoyed finding Okkervil River on my tivo as well. They'll be in Denver October 13th with (OMG my secret boyfriend) Damien Jurado. Sweet.

Aesop Rock to spend four nights in Colorado

If only every band would commit to four nights in Colorado, or better yet, three in Colorado and one in Wyoming, I would be the happiest girl on the Front Range.

Speaking of, is it just me or are we in a live music dry spell? I blame Monolith. All the good bands are coming in September, I just need to be patient.

Minus the Bear, Helio Sequence & Grand Archives coming in October

The last weekend in October is filling right up. If you're not going to Gogol Bordello on the 29th, how about Minus the Bear, Helio Sequence and Grand Archives that night at the Gothic?

I am delighted to see Grand Archives visiting the Front Range, their songs are downright purty. Singer Mat Brooke wrote two of my fave tracks from the Band of Horses debut album, and the Grand Archives songs bring the same quiet brilliance.

Handsome Furs make me happy

Dan Boeckner from Wolf Parade is one of my favorite voices out there right now, and this week I finally am able to spend some quality time with his side project, Handsome Furs.

It's the same great songwriting and rock and roll voice we expect from Dan, but a bit darker than the Wolf Parade stuff. In other words, it's fantastic.

My favorite track so far, Cannot Get Started.

Handsome Furs have a handful of North American tour dates left, sadly none on the Front Range:
Sunday, September 16, 2007
Echo, Los Angeles CA

Monday, September 17, 2007
Rickshaw Stop, San Francisco CA

Wednesday, September 19, 2007
Lola's, Portland OR

Thursday, September 20, 2007
Crocodile Cafe, Seattle WA

Friday, September 21, 2007
Lucky Bar, Vancouver Canada

Saturday, September 22, 2007
Richards on Richards, Vancouver Canada
